Staying at the road house here was fun. The kids had the opportunity to view some
more fresh water crocs, and feed some horses that came up to the fence where we
had set up our camper. Nick in
particular spent much time gathering the nicest grass he could find, to feed a
horse he felt a special connection with.
Once again, career paths have taken another turn, and all three have
decided they will now be either farmers or vets. Larina wants a horse to ride, Nick wants
horses (and a few cows to kill for their leather) and Sam wants both horses and
cows – which he clearly stated that he intended to keep alive.
During the afternoon, a fellow camper calmly came up to
inform us that a snake was making its way across the field, close by. As you would expect, we joined the other
cautious tourists to examine the long thick snake. Ben turns to Nick and says “what kind is it
Nick?” Nick states confidently… “Oh it’s
just a black headed python”. Those
standing by were rather impressed, especially when the owner of the farm
approached and announced to everyone that it was “only a black headed python –
and harmless”. (By the way – Sam had the
same species of snake around his neck at Mount Surprise a few days earlier,
which is how Nick came to be so confident in his identification…) We
have seen 3 wild snakes in 2 days – the other species we saw were coastal
taipan- (yikes!) and possible brown snake (that one was on the road, and we
didn’t stop to confirm our identification.)
Boots for everyone in the top end please!
Go Homards wanting to be vets. Some of the nicest people I know are vets :). Take care with those snakes.
