It was a relatively short trip to Mount Isa only about 180
clicks. Yep this is definitely a mining town.
We booked into yep you guessed it Mount Isa Caravan Park, and quickly
dumped the van on the dirt and headed for lunch (still my birthday). We had a
great lunch at McDonalds Family Restaurant. The kids enjoyed a play on the
playground while I caught up with the news headlines on the ipad and watched a
replay of the Sydney Swans grand final win verses West Coast Eagles. A very
relaxing afternoon thanks everyone! It was not long before we were back to
reality and needing to set up the camper and empty the port-a-loo as it had
received an absolute flogging back at Camooweal (too much information??). The
rest of the afternoon was spent chatting to family and friends which really
boosted our spirits. Day 2 we went to the Underground Hospital that was built
post World War II – quite interesting really although the collection of
surgical instruments looked very scary (no wonder people are put under for
operations) they also had some fossicking in the grounds for different kinds of
rocks which seemed to appeal to our kids for some reason…. The afternoon was
spent purchasing a new pair of boots for yours truly and the groceries followed
by a pizza dinner up at the local lookout.
We were told it gets better after
the sun has set when all the lights from the mines/smelters shine brightly. Yes
it was impressive. A nice memory to leave Mount Isa with. The next morning we
set out for Cloncurry…
No Ben,not enough information. What was the reason for the heavy use at Camooweal? Where you doing a Kenny and hiring the porta loo out at a public function, or was it someones poor cooking that created the rush for the loo?
