Sadly the spy camera museum at Herberton was closed as we
drove through today, so we pressed on to Atherton and made ourselves
comfortable at a caravan park. Instead
of the spy museum, we visited the crystal caves in the afternoon. (There seems to be lots of tourist
attractions around here willing to take your money!) This was lots of fun
though, given our new appreciation of the difficulty of finding gems! Loads to look at, touch and explore, and the
kids all enjoyed wearing helmets and head lamps. I discovered how much I like agate – and so
we had to make a little purchase on the way out. Then came our mission to clean clothes and do a massive grocery shop. Another hour or two as we attempted to stock
up ready for Cape York. (We spent at
least 30 min alone in the lolly isle while the children all selected treats to
spend their pocket money on).
