Chilli Beach

We drove and drove and drove today.  Our initial plans of making it to Archer River to stop for the night became redundant, when we arrived there before 12 noon, feeling that it was just a little too early to stop.  So after making a booking over the phone at national parks, we decided to press on to Chilli beach (without adding up all the km’s we would be travelling).  6 hours of dusty roads, followed by rainy weather, and we finally pulled into our camp.  Yah!  A walk along the palm tree lined beach before setting up was perfect.  Larina and I have renamed the beach as “Bottle-top Beach” given the incredible amounts of little bits of coloured plastic, thongs, and bottle tops that have been washed up onshore.

Ben has a go at opening a fallen coconut.

The beach lived up to its reputation – blowing a gale all day and night, combined with a bit more rain.  The children occupied themselves collecting bits and pieces they found lying around, making tee pees, and shelters.  We sat and watched them being industrious as we planned out the next few days.  A few special walks on the beach at low tide, and that about sums up our time here.

  1. Hey,at least Ben's still smiling! I think you have to be careful to not do too many k's on rough roads per day, as it's a hard slog and draining.Stop and smell the roses, or is that the porta loo!
