4 nights in the Adventist campground – beautiful peaceful
beach. It’s no wonder all the churches
have their little campgrounds along this strip – it offers feelings of
quietness, contentment and peace.
We had a last supper with our friends, who head on further
tomorrow. (I am fairly certain we will
see them again north of Perth however).
The kids farewelled each other with lots of hugs.
Our favourite spot here by far was the cultural centre,
where we spent time with Bill Webb, who told us about weapons that the Wardan
Aboriginal people used. He also taught
us how to make a knife using a stick, sap from a tree, roo poo and some sharp
quartz. We were very impressed,
especially when he let us take one with us.
The following day, we sent Ben out gathering the sap from special trees
that we spotted during our travels, so we can put all the quartz Sam has
collected to good use when we get home.
Pa – make sure you save us some roo poo!
Wednesday afternoon was spent driving the beaches, and Ben
took Sam and Nick snorkelling around some rocks. Nick was out a while, despite the chilly water,
and did some great diving much to Bens delight.
Sam is also a natural in the water with a pair of flippers on, although
he did not last quite as long because the snorkel helped wriggle his loose
tooth out, and he wanted to come back to shore so he didn’t lose it in the
water. Tooth fairy money is way too
valuable.
During our last few hours here we walked the famous Busselton
Jetty – almost 2km long, then celebrated with a maccas feast.
PS. the visits during the night from 3 little possums who
live in the tree above us was not so peaceful!
Last night one came through the air vent – he managed to poke his little
paw in – and push the vent out of its clasps.
Lucky Ben is a light sleeper – and he jumped out of bed and shooed him
off before we ended up with a very crazy van.
(picture Ben channelling his hero, “turtleman”, chasing a
possum around a small dark space, with myself and 3 children screaming) Ben unfortunately then had to spend another
few moments of his sleep time fixing the vent.
Wood sap and roo poo, is this a recipe for bush muffins? I think you've gone too far with the bush tucker Mandy. Communing with nature is fine, until they come through the air vent.
