Out came the marbles, and Ben attempted to teach the
children how to play – with the giant round boulders in the background. Despite the magical setting, the game was
somewhat short lived, as Larina won a marble and, believing that we were all
playing for “keeps” decided that she would not return it to her brother. You can probably picture how the next few moments
went down. Ok – now to give some
context… we had all spent the morning crammed in the camper doing as much
school work as possible, freezing cold winds circled the campsite making going
outside a thought to cringe at, and a rugged sleep last night from the howling
winds and a wet bed. Finally the sun
decides to show up, the winds drop and we make a break for the outdoors. Actually, we were all surviving pretty
well. Camped in a national park – in
what might be described as a huge car park, the beds were level, the drop
toilets were not too far away, and the sunsets were worth taking time for. And from our pillows – on either bed, we
could view the devils marbles. So
following the marble game, Jim (substitute grandpa, who we have previously
mentioned) suggested a game of cricket – an idea that was met with cheers and
excitement from all – children and adults.
The park was quickly transformed into a cricket pitch, adults protecting
the caravan windows. Yay. Sanity was restored again.
The rest of the afternoon saw exploration
around the grounds – and sunset from the top of one of the huge boulders. Just enough time for the next chapter of
Peter Pan before bed.
The two nights here were terrific, and a great break from
the kms of road that we have seen.
Ready for another big day of travel tomorrow as we head to Alice
Springs.
