Gold fever - Kalgoorlie

After travelling the final few hundred Kim's on the Nullabor, and a fuel, toilet, lunch & playground  stop at Norsmen, we headed off to Kalgoorlie for 3 days of looking for Gold!!!! It was about 35deg when we arrived at the discovery park and to all our delight there was a POOL!!!! So record set up then off for a dip. Saturday morning Sam, Nick & Mum went off for a tour of the Kalgoorlie Super Pit, while Larina and Dad spent some time shopping and having "coffee" (baby chino) after some tears when mum got on the bus. We managed to pick up a few little gifts for mums birthday as well.  (no gold though)

The following day Nick and Sam got to explore a big truck – Nick was not as impressed once inside however, stating that it smelled like "dead bats and smelly armpits all mixed together".  All part of the experience hey!  We then spent hours digging through the car park outside the super pit lookout - finding as much fools gold as we could.  We don't care that its' worthless - it still looks pretty to us.  Our collection of rock specimens are getting larger and larger.  More afternoons in the pool - and Larina is becoming a determined little swimmer.  She now likes to swim around without her bubble on.  Big milestone for a little girl.  We are all excited and proud.

  1. Have read all your blogs over the last 2 nights and loved them all! A great adventure and experience for you all, particularly the kids. Some fantastic photos in there really capture the adventure well! Definitely inspired to start planning a lap of our own! Cheers Karl!
