Princess Margaret Rose Caves

We drove around Cape Bridgewater this morning, and were amazed at the beauty – despite the rain and severe winds.  The weather unfortunately prevented us from doing the 2 hr walk to seal colony with the kids, but never mind, we press on.  The blow hole was impressive – it lived up to its name, and we had to hang onto the kids to stop them flying over the cliff face!

Unsure where to stay  (all the camp grounds in lower Glenelg national park have seemed to be booked out) we kept on driving through the pine tree plantations (ahem, sorry, they are the enchanted woods) until we came to Princess Margaret Rose Caves campground.  Yay – a spot to rest.  The relief is huge when Ben and I finally are settled on a place to set up.  We set up in the rain – kids were in the van while we were putting it up.  They thought it was a great game- we didn’t!  Ben and I have worked out a bit of a system now… it goes “when all else fails…. just be nice to each other”.  I remember this great advice was given to me by a work colleague when we were about to have Sam 7 years ago – it got us through some ugly nights back then, and is proving useful again now.

The following day a tour into the caves was in store.  (The kids loved the idea of two boys discovering the cave while playing one day in the bush – and then keeping it secret for years).  The tour was good – and the caves beautiful.  I loved when they turned out all the lights and suggested that we all sneak out and leave the kids there… NOT!  A camp fire again tonight, with of course, more rain.  The boys are loving collecting fire wood, and Ben put his new bush saw to good use.
