Carnavon Gorge

We had heard a lot about Carnarvon Gorge along the way – specifically, don’t miss it! Camp was set up at Ravenshoe and a day trip into the Gorge organised. The drive in was spectacular and it got better the closer we got to the national park. The plan was to walk about a round trip of 10km. With preparations much better than the last walk (ie we all had appropriate footwear and plenty of food and water) we set off to our first stop, The Moss Garden.

We criss-crossed the river a number of times on the way to the gardens and before long we arrived to a beautiful spot, complete with moss growing all around. We enjoyed the cool air for a while then moved on to spot 2, the Amphitheatre, where we had lunch and soaked up the atmosphere.

From here it got a bit tough with the temperature rising and Larina not wanting to walk any further (shoulder ride #135) it felt like the longest 5km walk back to the car park. Nick, Larina & Ben all slipped off the rocks during the water crossing, dunking their feet into the water (we should have just dived in). Lollies and stories helped us slowly make our way back to the car in one piece and we headed home.
